How to Install ZOOM Client on Ubuntu 20.04

How to Install ZOOM Client on Ubuntu

Zoom client is not an open-source software tool and it is also not included in the Ubuntu default repositories. There are three method for installing Zoom:

  • Install Zoom from APT repositories.
  • Install Zoom using Snap
  • Using GUI Interface.

Method 1: Install Zoom Client from APT repositories

First of all press Ctrl + Alt + T on your system keyboard to open or launch the ubuntu command line terminal.

Then run the  wget command to download Zoom as show below :

wget -O Downloads/zoom.deb https://zoom.us/client/latest/zoom_amd64.deb
sudo apt update
sudo apt install ~/Downloads/zoom.deb

When ask, type y for Yes and continue the installation process.

Reading package lists… Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information… Done
Note, selecting 'zoom' instead of '/home/richard/Downloads/zoom.deb'
The following additional packages will be installed:
libegl1-mesa libgl1-mesa-glx libxcb-xtest0
The following NEW packages will be installed:
libegl1-mesa libgl1-mesa-glx libxcb-xtest0 zoom
0 upgraded, 4 newly installed, 0 to remove and 12 not upgraded.
Need to get 16.7 kB/41.5 MB of archives.
After this operation, 155 MB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n] Y

That’s it !

Zoom has been installed in your system. To launch it, go to the Activities Overview and search for Zoom Client and launch it.


Method 2 : Install Zoom Client via Snap

Snap is a cross-distribution software deployment and package management system. Snap packages are safe to install and run, they auto-update and we can also roll-back the changes easily.

If Snap is not installed on your system then you will need to install it before you install ZOOM Client. Installing via snap is the best and easiest way to install packages on Linux machine, including Ubuntu.

To Install snap package manager , run the commands below :

sudo apt update
sudo apt install snapd

Next, run the command below to install Zoom Client from Snap package management:

sudo snap install zoom-client

The command above will install the Zoom Client on your Ubuntu system. To launch it, go to the Activities Overview and search for Zoom Client and launch it.


Method 3 : Install Zoom Client via GUI Interface

To install Zoom Client via GUI Interface, First open your browser and visit the below link for download Zoom:

Select Linux type, OS Architecture and version, and click on the Download button to save in the Downloads folder of your Home directory:

Next, go to your Downloads folder, then right click on the downloaded file and then select Open With Software Install option:

zoom_ubuntu_install-process

After that, click on Install button to start installation process.

When you done with installation process, go to the Activities Overview and search for Zoom Client and launch it.
