Install Steam on Ubuntu 18.04 | 20.04

Simply follow below steps to Install Steam on your Ubuntu system:

Step 1 : Prerequisites

To install Steam on Ubuntu, you must need to logged in as a user with sudo privileges.


Step 2 : Download Steam Package

To download the latest Steam .deb package, runt the wget command as below:

$ wget https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/installer/steam.deb

Step 3 : Install Steam on Ubuntu

After the downloading steam .deb packages, install Steam in your system by running below command:

sudo apt install ./steam.deb

The above command installed Steam on your Ubuntu system.


Step 4 : Update Steam Packages

In future, if a new version of steam is released then you can update and upgrade the Steam package by using below command:

sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade

Step 5 : Starting Steam

To launch steam, open the Activities and search steam and then click on steam icon. You can also open it via command line by typing steam on your terminal.

When you launch Steam for the first time, it will open a new terminal window and install the necessary and required packages.

When prompted, type Y and press Enter key to continue. The terminal will close, and Steam will update its self to the latest version. It will take few minutes depends on your system and it will start the Steam client.
