Install Jellyfin on Ubuntu 18.04 | 20.04

Simply follow below steps to Install Jellyfin on Ubuntu 18.04 | 20.04:

Step 1 : Update Ubuntu and Install Required Packages

Before starting to install Jellyfin, first you will need to install HTTPS transport for APT and enable the Universe repository to obtain all the FFMpeg dependencies.

To update Ubuntu and install required packages, run the commands below:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install apt-transport-https
sudo add-apt-repository universe

Step 2 : Add Jellyfin Repository

After update Ubuntu and install required packages, now you will need to add Jellyfin repository in your ubuntu system.

Run the command below to download the GPG key for the repository:

wget -O - https://repo.jellyfin.org/ubuntu/jellyfin_team.gpg.key | sudo apt-key add -

Now run the command below to create a repository file for Jellyfin :

echo "deb [arch=$( dpkg --print-architecture )] https://repo.jellyfin.org/ubuntu $( lsb_release -c -s ) main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/jellyfin.list

Step 3 : Install Jellyfin

After add Jellyfin repository, you can install it by running the commands below:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install jellyfin

Now, run the command below to start, stop and enable Jellyfin services:

sudo systemctl start jellyfin
sudo systemctl stop jellyfin
sudo systemctl enable jellyfin

To check the status of Jellyfin, run the command below:

sudo systemctl status jellyfin

Step 4 : Access Jellyfin Web Interface

Open your browser and browse to the http://SERVER-IP:8096 or http://localhost:8096:

When you browse, it will open the jellyfin setup wizard. At setup wizard, first select your language.
