Backup Windows Registry

We already mentioned above, before making any changes on the Windows Registry, it is always a good idea to backup Windows registry. You can use Windows registry export and import feature to back up the registry.

To do that, open the Start menu and search for Registry Editor. From search result, click on the Registry Editor app to open it as shown in the image below:

After open the Windows registry app, click on the File tab and then choose Export option as shown in the below image:

From the export pop-up window, choose the location in your Windows system, where you want to save the backup file and then type a file name for backup.

Next, choose the options under Export Range :

  • All : choose it, when you want to backup the entire Windows registry.
  • Selected Branch : choose it for selected branch only.

Finally, click on the Save button to save the registry in you system. It will take the some time to export the registry.


Restore Windows registry

To import the registry, open the Start menu and search for Registry Editor. From search result, click on the Registry Editor app to open it:

After open the Windows registry app, click on the File tab and then choose Import option as shown in the below image:

Now, browse the backup file from your system then select it and click on the Open button to import it as shown below:
